Geetika Jakhar:
She started her training in wrestling school, but by 2014 she has won 2 medals in Asian Games. She is the first women wrestler who has been awarded as the famous wrestler in the Commonwealth games. She is the first Indian women wrestler who has been awarded the Arjuna Award for wrestling.
Geeta Phogat:
A girl from a Hindu Jat family in Haryana started wrestling under her father’s coaching. She is one of the first female wrestler in India who has won India’s first gold in the Commonwealth games.She is also the first Indian woman wrestler who has qualified for the Olympics.
Alka Tomar:
A middle class family girl took her passion, wrestling as a hobby and changed it into her career.She is not only the winner of the national women wrestling championship, but she has also won a bronze medal at the Doha Asian games in 2006. She is also a recipient of the Arjuna awards for her outstanding performance in the sports.
Kamlesh:
Inspired from her male cousin, she took wrestling as her profession. In the male- dominated society when everyone, forcing girls of her age to get married, she went against all these odds to choose wrestling as her passion. Short hair, unique personality and her love towards wrestling made her national champion.
This female wrestlers deserves our salute who have given an equal competition to the male members.They have proved everyone that “ Wrestling is not a man’s game, women can also choose it”.
